Indinana Dunes Trail, Porter, IN Visit

4 Aug 2013

Indidunes

This was a days trip planned with the family. Almost 2 hr of drive from Chicago to the south. The plan was to leave home on Sunday 4 Aug before noon, have a nature trail to explore the area and return back by evening. Everything went as expected.

Large sand dunes, located beyond the entire shoreline, have taken thousands of years to form, and tower nearly 200 feet above Lake Michigan. A wide range of habitats and plant species are found in the park, with vegetation stabilizing some of the sand. These habitats provide homes for many types of plants and animals. The lake also provides habitat for many aquatic species, as well as a constantly changing fishery.

We had planned to complete the Bailly Homestead & Chellberg Farm Trail which is one of the smallest but good for young familiy members. I didnt realised that I was close to shore during this trail. The trail was completely covered with tall tree with some elevation and wooden stairs. At some point had difficiulty to drive daughter's stroller. Looks like she enjoyed the ride though.

For me it was best driving experience since drove 1st time on my own to the south of Chicago passing coulmate river. This was 3rd hike of the year where we are celebrating 10 years of Bhramanti.

The 5th hike was completed by Murugessan K. K. with his family on the Indiana beach trail.
