31st Dec 2006

Vasai Fort

The last day of the year 2006. This was adhoc planned trip due to cancellation of our proposed activity on 31st dec. We were 8 including our Manali friend Bhola, who was on vacation to Mumbai. We planned to travel to Vasai and then back to the new climbing site Navghar for Bouldering practice.

Vasai Fort EntranceWe started from Omkareshwar temple, Borivali-East at around 8:30am. I was driving my car. Between Dahisar & Mira road I bashed another car, got some dent on the bonut, luckily not the major one. We reached Vasai fort in 1 hr. One has to take left turn from the Vasai ST depot to reach the place. Its around 45km from Borivali by road. The fortification is widely spread and one can see its one of the most neglected sea fort. Its dirty that's the over all reaction from anyone who looks around the fort where plenty of time you see human sheet, plastic, people violating the place by making it more dirty, shouting, writing on the wall etc. I thought of spending more time but due to all these feature we left the fort early. I don't know whether Maharashtra Government has plan to nurture this fort or not as per new conservation plan of some of the forts in Maharashtra.

Sasoon Navghar
Practicing at Navghar
We reached the Navghar near the Temple on the highway toward left side while traveling towards Mumbai. That is the landmark of this site. Its 30 min walk to find the climbing site. We practiced almost 3 hrs. climbed 3-4 routes of medium-difficult grade. That was more satisfying activity. The area is in the shade so it's cool. That was the good end of the year 2006. Kiran had good photographs of the last sunset while returning back to home. We wished each other "Happy New Year" and parted away at Borivali.
